SWAYAM (Study Webs of Active Learning by Young and Aspiring Minds) is a government-sponsored programme that aims to achieve the three cardinal principles of education policy: access, equity, and quality. The goal of this effort is to make the best teaching and learning resources available to everyone, including the most disadvantaged. SWAYAM aims to bridge the digital divide for the students who have been left behind by the digital revolution and are unable to participate in the knowledge economy.
Credit Transfer
The Government of India recognises all the courses offered by SWAYAM. All the courses are valid in the country, and the UGC published the "Credit Framework for Online Learning Courses through SWAYAM" Regulations, 2016, defining credit transfer for SWAYAM courses. The UGC regulation requires Universities to amend their rules and regulations to include credit mobility and MOOC courses on the SWAYAM platform. Certificates of degrees and diplomas will be awarded upon completion of the course requirements, and that certificate will serve as credit mobility for academic credits. The current UGC guideline restricts up to 40% of the MOOCs from SWAYAM platform in a particular program.
